Maria Jose de Villafranca focuses on greenhouse gas emission scenario analysis. She leads and contributes to projects that analyse the impact of climate actions by countries and emission-intensive industries. At NewClimate Institute, Maria has led the Climate Action Tracker project, in which she continues to be part of the core team and serves as the lead Mexico analyst. Further, she has experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis of non-state climate actions, investment needs in the electricity sector, and policy impacts in the energy and transport sectors. Maria is a Chemical Engineer from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and holds M.Sc. degrees in Environmental Sciences from the University of Cologne (Germany), and in Life Science and Technology from Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands).
