Under the Country Ambition Support Project, NewClimate Institute contributes to the implementation of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (BMZ) bilateral climate and development partnerships.  NewClimate works with the BMZ to strengthen the capacity of over a dozen partner countries – including Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Pakistan, Peru, and Senegal –  to raise ambition towards achieving the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target and to accelerate progress towards the UN 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.

Through the project, NewClimate assesses partner countries’ climate pledges and policies, identifying country- and sector-specific entry points to increase ambition, fill gaps, and strengthen action. NewClimate’s assessments inform the BMZ’s preparation for dialogues with partner countries. NewClimate also provides training to BMZ staff on key mechanisms and components of the Paris Agreement.

By providing targeted, analytical support, the programme aims to empower the BMZ and partner countries to jointly enhance ambition and accelerate action.

The project is funded by the BMZ for three years (2024-2026).
