As part of the Climate Action Diplomacy Program (CDAP), NewClimate Institute supports partner countries in strengthening institutional capacities and implementing ambitious climate policies in line with the Paris Agreement. The project fosters bilateral dialogue, develops tailored analytical tools, and facilitates capacity building for government, civil society, and private sector actors.
NewClimate provides scientific analysis and practical guidance on national climate strategies, including economy-wide and sectoral implications of the Paris targets, policy design, and sustainable development co-benefits. Activities also include the development of country-specific policy playbooks and support for international cooperation initiatives such as Just Energy Transition Partnerships.
Examples of activities implemented under this project to date include a global analysis on green skills and the implications of skill shortages for achieving the Paris temperature goals; technical and strategic support to IRENA as secretariat of the Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (APRA), including the development of a framework to assess potential new partner countries; and advisory support to Kenya in developing an investment plan for its National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP III). In addition, the project has produced a series of targeted analyses on climate and energy ambition in countries such as Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye.
The project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and has a duration of three years (2024-2026).
